Kitteh Hairkut

24 Apr

I used to shell out a hundred bucks to get Tobias groomed but I never felt like they cut his hair short enough. While many Persian kittehs get the lion cut (shaved body, full head of hair), I’ve never been willing to go that far. Since I never liked the cut-job the groomers did, I decided about a year ago to take matters into my own hands and cut him myself with nothing but a pair of fiskars. Here’s how I do it:

Supplies

Cat brush, scissors (fiskars are my scissor of choice), plastic bag (to contain the cut-off fur), and kitteh treats (when baby starts to get fussy).

Technique

I’ve found that the key to keeping kitty still is to lock him tight in between my legs. Now, I’m not being cruel or anything, but he’s snug enough that he can’t run away at a moment’s notice. Doesn’t he look like he’s loving it?

Don’t let him fool you, he loves the attention.

Result

After a few treats and some time on his heating pad, kitteh decided to forgive me for his hour-long haircut. While his fur does look a little choppy after I give it a cut, within a few weeks the choppiness grows out and he looks just perf.

But come on, how cute is he?

A Case of the Mondays

5 Mar

You may have noticed that I didn’t post any outfit pics last week. Unfortunately, I was super swamped with work last week and pretty much wore jeans, sneakers, and variations of sweatshirts every day. In order to avoid a case of the Mondays and start my week off right, I decided to do my hair, do my makeup, and wear heels. While, like Man BFF, I’ve recently started walking to work, throwing my heels in my purse while sporting flats for the mile walk to work is the way to go.

My bangs have officially reached the point where they need a trim (hence pulling them pack in these pics). I’m still committed to my stylist in Indy, so I’m probably going to have to wait until Easter to get a chop. Like his mother, Tobias has also been in need of a haircut and fortunately, I’m his stylist. Look how cute my little Lamb-y is!

Long Overdue Update on Kitteh Potty Training

29 Dec

Remember when I posted that Man BFF and I were trying to potty train Tobias? I know, like a million years ago. Well, here’s an update. We failed. We failed within 24 hours. He wasn’t going to the bathroom and we just couldn’t handle watching him suffer. How could we look at this little face and not care that he was holding it?

Will we try again? Probs not. Did we learn a valuable lesson about Tobias? Yes. He’s not a human.

Kitteh’s Beauty Morning

5 Nov

Tomorrow is an important day for our family. We’re getting our Christmas card picture taken! Man BFF and I take our Christmas card picture very seriously. The Christmas after we got married, we sent out our first card and boy did it flop! We were trying to do the whole ugly Christmas sweater thing (even Tobias wore a sweater) but it left our families wondering whether or not it was supposed to be a joke. Ay yi yi. Last year we went to Paris for our first anniversary and had our pictures taken. Parisian Christmas card? Tres chic!

While this was in no way a flop (Man BFF even designed it!), we did have a few questions about why we signed Tobias’ name and he wasn’t in the pic (we can’t win!). One of my college friends even said her roommate (who doesn’t know me) thought maybe I was pregnant and we had already named our baby Tobias! Oh brother!

This year, we’re going to make our card all about Chicago. Man BFF and I are going to have our picture taken with the city skyline, but we’re not forgetting about Toby! He’s having his own photo session at our house before hand. In order to get him ready for his big day, I spent the morning getting him beautified!

Supplies

1. Waterless Shampoo

2. Scissors

3. Pet Toothbrush/Toothpaste

4. Hairbrush

5. Fine Tooth Comb

6. Treats!

Beauty Schedule

1. Shut kitteh in the bathroom or the room where he’s least likely to be able to run/hide.

2. Start with a good brushing. This will ease him into his spa day.

3. Waterless shampoo time. Lather him up!

4. If he needed his nails trimmed, I would have done it next, but instead I trimmed the extra fur that had grown between his toesies.

5. Save the worst for last… teeth brushing!

Happy Kitty

Show off those pearly whites, baby!

Bad Kitteh

17 Oct

Yesterday, Man BFF and I went grocery shopping but only had about 10 minutes to unload the food in our apartment before we had to book it to church. We threw everything in the fridge and freezer that needed to go in there and left the rest in grocery bags on the floor. We underestimated Tobias’ love of bread.

A couple of hours later, we opened the door to this.

Tobias has always had a taste for bread, but he just took it to a new level with these french bread rolls. Not only were they in the entryway, but he had managed to drag/carry a roll into the bathroom!

At first he hid from us out of shame, but he quickly returned to the scene of the crime.

He learned his lesson because he had some major bathroom issues this morning. Maybe he’s gluten free.

Does your kitteh love human food?

A Fred Flare Christmas

13 Oct

Every time I’m on Fred Flare, it just makes me smile. There is some hilarious stuff on that website. I always end up emailing something to Man BFF or my sister to lol about. Looking at the site today gave me some awesome Christmas present ideas for everyone in my family. Here’s the rundown:

Mom

The title of this book pretty much sums up my mom.

Dad

My dad is a pancake-making-machine. Bacon and chocolate are just bonuses.

Sister

Despite her potty humor, this lady is all about cleanliness in the b-room.

Brother-in-law

“Bring on the dairy,” is his favorite saying.

Sister and Bro-in-law’s Kitteh

Both of his parents are musicians, so it only makes sense for him to become a DJ.

Older Brother

He lives in India and racks up the frequent flyer miles for his job.

Sister-in-law

She’s pregs now so sushi may not be her thing, but we’ve shared some good rolls in the past.

Niece

My older bro (her dad) is the only one of us to not catch the cat crazies so she at least needs some plastic kittehs in her life.

Lil Brother

This kid was gaga for lego’s back in the day and now he’s all artsy. Perfect combo.

Man BFF

Harmony between his two fave subjects: f*rts and traveling.

Tobias

To answer one of life’s mysteries.

Adventures in Kitteh Potty Training

27 Sep

Last month, Man BFF bought a kitteh potty training kit, CitiKitty (unbeknownst to me). I really wasn’t sold on the idea of potty training Tobias, mainly because I just didn’t think he would be willing to change his ways. After putting the inevitable off for a month, we started last night and Toby tried to find any hiding spot possible to avoid the grown-up potty.

It’s important to use flush-able litter when embarking on this mission so we bought The World’s Best Cat Litter after reading some online reviews. The problem is that Tobias is used to Yesterday’s News litter which looks, smells, and feels very different to him. I think our first mistake was not getting him acquainted with the new litter before setting it up in CitiKitty.

We tried sitting him down in the litter and scraping his paws around in it, but he was just not having it. We shut him in the bathroom while we watched DWTS (Team Ricki Lake this week!), but still nothing. We thought he might explore overnight, but we were wrong. Failure.

Warning: You are about to see a toilet with kitty litter in it.

Doesn’t his smug face just read, “seriously?”

Here’s how we decided to ease him into this:

1. Remove CitiKitty this week and go back to his litter box but with the new litter.

2. Put his litter box in our bathroom cause that’s where his CitiKitty will be. He’s used to reigning over the guest bathroom, but we’re trying to avoid future “Meet the Parents” moments.

I’ll keep you posted on how it goes!

I miss kitty!

23 Sep

Because of our car dramz last weekend we had to leave Tobias at my parents’ house for the week cause pets aren’t allowed on the MegaBus. Sad! We’re going to get him tonight and I can’t wait cause I miss my son! He’s a human in my mind.

In other news, be sure to keep checking in on Man BFF’s blog to hear all about Hawaii! He’s been blogging up a storm!

Have a good weekend!

Cats in Clothes

25 Aug

Is there anything better? After posting how cold Tobias was and how he has ski vests to keep him warm, my friend Jamie requested I post a few pics of Tobias ski-clad. Here he is! Clearly loving it.

Such a cutie, even when he hates me.

I also hit the jack pot in the kitteh clothes department when I found this article featuring kitteh couture on one off my fave websites, Refinery 29. Here are some of the best looks modeled by cats who enjoy the limelight a bit more than Tobias.

Pet Communicators?

24 Aug

After a week of being Bravo-less, Man BFF and I are happy to report that the sweet sound of Andy Cohen’s voice is back in the Evans’ household. Last night, we caught up on one of our faves, Flipping Out.

Last night, Jeff had a pet communicator come to his house and make sure that everything was good with his bevy of pets. He may be a meany to humans, but I admire his compassion for animals. He found out some hilarious (one dog would rather be called “Angelo” than “Chris”) and sad (his cat felt like Jeff loves the dogs more) info.

While I’m not quite sure how I feel about pet communicators, I wouldn’t mind having some cat whisperer abilities right about now. Tobias has been pretty cold towards me ever since his haircut the other night. Man BFF thinks it’s because he’s literally too cold. I hope not! Luckily, he has a few kitteh ski vests to wear.
